Join the practice

A small practice, carefully chosen.

Kensington Square Therapy works with a small number of qualified therapists, each registered with a recognised professional body. We take on new associates only when the fit is right for our schools and families. If that prompts a conversation, we would welcome it.

About the practice

What it is like to work with us

Kensington Square Therapy is a specialist practice for children, young people and families. Most of our work happens inside London’s independent schools, during the school day: counselling for pupils, 11+ groups, consultation with pastoral staff and support for parents.

Alongside the school work, we offer parent consultations and online therapy for older adolescents and young adults up to 25. The practice is humanistic in foundation and integrative in approach. We currently work with Kensington Prep School and Connaught House School. Our clinical lead, Sam McManus, has also held counselling posts at Latymer Upper School and Latymer Prep School for over a decade, as part of his own practice.

We are deliberately small. Associates are not a pool to draw from at random. Each is matched to the work, properly supported, and treated as a colleague. The bar is high because the children and families we work with deserve it to be.

We take a small number of associates each year, and we listen carefully before saying yes.

The bar

Who we are looking for

We work only with therapists who are fully qualified and registered with a recognised professional body. The professional bar is fixed; the human bar matters just as much.

Registration

Registered, in good standing, with a recognised professional body: the BACP, NCPS, UKCP, BPC, BPS or HCPC.

Vetting

An enhanced DBS certificate issued within the last three years and kept current through the DBS Update Service, or willingness to obtain one, and a clean professional history.

Insurance

Professional indemnity and public liability insurance with at least £5 million cover, evidenced before any work with children or families begins.

Supervision

An established clinical supervision arrangement, at a frequency suited to your caseload and to your professional body’s guidance.

Experience

Meaningful experience with children, adolescents or young adults. Experience of school settings counts for a great deal, since most of our work happens in schools.

Character

Considered, warm and clinically grounded. Quietly accountable, and able to hold the boundaries that work inside a school asks of us.

The process

From first message to first session

There is no rush at any stage. It usually takes a few weeks from first conversation to first session, and we would rather slow a step than skip one.

  1. One

    A short note from you

Use the form below. Every application is read personally, and we aim to reply within three working days.

  2. Two

    A first conversation

A call of 30 to 45 minutes, to understand your practice, the work that suits you, and whether KST is the right setting. If it is not, we will say so kindly.

  3. Three

    References and checks

We ask for two clinical references and verify your registration, DBS certificate and insurance. Routine, and essential.

  4. Four

    Onboarding

If we both want to go ahead, you receive the associate agreement, a safeguarding briefing, access to our case management system and an induction with the clinical lead.

  5. Five

    First work, supported

Your first pieces of work are agreed with you and reviewed at three months. We stay close in the early months.

Working with KST

What the work involves

You would be engaged as an independent associate, not an employee. Sessions are paid at a rate that reflects your experience and the setting, with the fee structure shared openly at the contracting stage. There are no hidden margins and no quotas.

The work spans counselling within partner schools, some of it funded by the school and some by parents, and 11+ group programmes in the relevant terms. Where we can, we offer each associate a mix that suits their practice.

You keep your clinical autonomy. We do not tell you how to work. We ask you to hold the standards the practice and its families rely on: clear record keeping, prompt safeguarding escalation, open supervision, and the ethical framework of your own professional body.

Your application

Tell us about your practice

Your application is read by the clinical lead. When the confirmation email arrives, please reply to it with your CV and evidence of registration, so everything stays in one thread.

Fields marked with an asterisk are required.

A paragraph or two, of at least 50 characters: who you are clinically, the work that draws you, and what brings you to KST. There is no right answer. Write as you would to a colleague.
